Team Preview

The 16th Season of Indian Premier League is around the corner and fans cannot curb their excitement. You can catch our IPL 2023 Overview here. In this article, we will talk about the Mumbai Indians in detail.

MI had a campaign to forget last year, but with an all new season around the corner they’d be all charged up to turn all of last season’s wrongs into rights. They suffered a major blow with the leader of their pack Jasprit Bumrah and one of their most promising signings of the season in Jhye Richardson getting ruled out ahead of the season, but a fit Jofra Archer will act as the healing stuff for their bowling attack. Their batting is one of the strongest in the competition on paper, and they hardly have anything to worry in that department right from the openers to the finishers, boasting of some of the biggest names in the format. However their inexperienced spin attack is a major cause of concern.

Last Season Standing: With 4 wins & 10 losses, they ended up with the wooden spoon, finishing 10th on the points tally

Squad News/Changes:

MI are still in search of both Bumrah’s & Richardson’s replacements

Key Players

Suryakumar Yadav Batter (RHB)

With the No. 1 ranked T20I batter back playing his favourite format, MI’s middle order is in great hands. He had a great run last season: Inns- 8 | Runs- 303 | Avg- 43 | SR- 146

With the kind of form he’s been in, in this format, expect him to easily breach the 550+ run mark this season, a season like that could also help him strengthen his WC chances

SKY in all T20s since the start of 2022: Inns- 49 | Runs- 1872 | Avg- 48 | SR- 170

Jofra Archer Bowler (RAF)

Jofra is all set for his much awaited MI debut. Fans would’ve loved to see him & Bumrah bowling in full tilt together, but the latter’s injury means they’ll have to wait yet another season.

Expect a roaring atmosphere at Wankhede with him running in with the new ball. He was impressive in his last outing, the T20Is vs Bangladesh: Inns- 3 | Wkts- 4 | Avg- 18 | SR- 16

Tim David Batter (RHB)

With Pollard calling quits on his IPL career, it’s all on David to leave as big an impact as him, while doing the finisher’s duties. He showed immense glimpses of his finishing prowess in the limited opportunities he got last season, despite an uncertainty over his place in the XI. Now with him having a fixed place in the XI, expect him to perform a notch above

Last season aggregates: Inns- 8 | Runs- 186 | Avg- 37 | SR- 216

His T20 aggregates since the start of this year: Inns- 17 | Runs- 445 | Avg- 41 | SR- 168

One to Watch Out for

Arshad Khan All Rounder (LHB/LAM)

Arshad could well be one of the finds for MI this season. He had to miss last season with injury, but with him now being fit and raring to go, expect some fireworks lower down the order coupled with his left arm seam.

He’s yet to make his T20 debut, but has shown enough glimpses of his talent in various local tournaments, the most recent being the DY Patil T20 Tournament: Inns- 5 | Runs- 75 | Avg- 37 | Wkts- 10 | Avg- 15

What do you think then are MI’s chances for this IPL Season?
